Besides being a UX Designer, I am a licensed psychotherapist and life-long musician that loves technology, film, photography, and mixology. As someone who is creative, empathic, and analytical, it has been a challenge to combine these different sides of me into a single career.
But I’ve found that UX Design is the perfect mix for me. Getting to this destination has meant a number of different career experiences that have shaped my UX values and have prepared me for being a great designer.
As a QA tester, I QA’d countless websites and software apps. I learned to deeply value and empathize with the experience of users as I hunted for bugs and issues with content and usability.
As a bartender and bar manager, it was my job to create stellar experiences for customers. This meant creating an aesthetically pleasing experience for customers, as well as endless creative problem solving and working in near perfect unison with my teammates.
During my time as a licensed psychotherapist, I have developed an incredible sense of empathy for others. I regularly use current research in the treatment of clients and conduct assessment interviews to gather data and insights into helping clients solve some of life’s most challenging problems
As a therapist, I saw how mobile apps were helping my clients with a number of mental health issues, and it clicked that UX would be the perfect career path for me. I started taking UX, coding, and visual design classes at a community college, and started at Thinkful’s UX/UI Design Program.
My dream is to design apps that will have a meaningful impact on people’s lives. I have created diverse projects such as a mental health support app, an app that lets users find and cook recipes together over video, a cocktail app to reduce store trips for the Covid19 era, as well as a public transportation app. I am currently freelancing and designing products for local community services and local government at Hack4LA
